Carlsbad is a coastal city in the North County region of San Diego County, California, United States. Situated 87 miles (140 km) south of downtown Los Angeles and 35 miles (56 km) north of downtown San Diego, it is a popular tourist destination and a hub for businesses in the golf industry. To facilitate city planning and growth management, Carlsbad is divided into four distinct quadrants.

The northwest quadrant (ZIP code 92008) includes the historic downtown “Village,” “The Barrio,” and “Olde Carlsbad.” This area was the first part of Carlsbad to be settled and features an eclectic mix of homes ranging from 195s cottages to elegant mansions overlooking the ocean. Notable landmarks include Hosp Grove Park, Buena Vista Lagoon, and Agua Hedionda Lagoon.

In contrast, the northeast quadrant (ZIP code 92010) consists mostly of single-family homes with larger lots found in older areas such as Chestnut Hills and newer developments around Calavera Hills. Lake Calavera Nature Preserve can also be found here, offering hiking trails with ocean views.

Moving to the southeast quadrant (ZIP code 92009), this area features several newer upscale master-planned communities nestled among hillsides, golf courses, Alga Norte Community Park, and permanent open spaces. It includes Bressi Ranch as well as La Costa neighborhoods like Rancho La Costa and La Costa Oaks.

Lastly, the southwest quadrant (ZIP code 92011) extends along the Pacific Ocean southward from Carlsbad’s center. This area includes the Aviara neighborhood where you can find Park Hyatt Aviara Resort.

Each quadrant offers its own unique charm making Carlsbad a diverse city with something for everyone!
