La Jolla
La Jolla, a coastal neighborhood in San Diego, spans 7 miles along the Pacific Ocean and is home to a population of 46,781. Its mild climate boasts an average daily temperature of 70.5 °F (21.4 °C). Surrounded by ocean bluffs and beaches, it is located just north of downtown San Diego and south of the Orange County line.
The area hosts various educational institutions and businesses in lodging, dining, shopping, software, finance, real estate, bioengineering, medical practice and scientific research. Notable establishments include the University of California – San Diego (UCSD), Salk Institute, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Scripps Research.
La Jolla has also made its mark as an arts center with the founding of La Jolla Playhouse in 1947 by Gregory Peck among others. The Museum of Contemporary Art was established here in 1941 within the former residence of Ellen Browning Scripps.
For recreation enthusiasts or sports fans, Torrey Pines Golf Course regularly hosts PGA Tour events while nearby attractions such as Black’s Beach and Torrey Pines Gliderport offer diverse experiences for visitors.
Downtown La Jolla is known for its upscale shops and dining options along Prospect Street and Girard Avenue. It also features various beaches including Windansea Beach, La Jolla Shores Beach, La Jolla Cove and Children’s Pool Beach where visitors can enjoy ocean access activities like swimming or kayaking.
