South Park
South Park is a welcoming community nestled between North Park and Golden Hill, offering beautiful vistas and charming Craftsman-style homes. Located just east of Balboa Park, South Park was one of the first suburbs of Downtown San Diego, with significant development beginning around 1905, thanks to the extension of streetcar service by the Bartlett Webster developing company. The neighborhood is primarily composed of single-family homes, along with small apartment buildings and bungalow courts, showcasing an impressive collection of Craftsman and Spanish Colonial Revival style homes built between 1905 and 1930. Notable architects like Irving Gill, William S. Hebbard, and Richard Requa contributed to its architectural richness. In 2017, the original South Park Addition subdivision was designated as the South Park Historic District, recognizing it as a prime example of an early 20th-century streetcar suburb. The community’s vibrant spirit is highlighted by events like the quarterly Walkabout, where local shops and restaurants stay open late, offering special deals and showcasing the neighborhood’s diversity and pride in local arts, crafts, and culture. Much of South Park lies adjacent to the southeastern corner of Balboa Park, providing residents with quieter, more secluded sections of San Diego’s largest green space, while still being close enough to enjoy the park’s many attractions.Sorry we are experiencing system issues.
