Mission Hills is a vibrant and historic neighborhood in San Diego, perched on hills overlooking Old Town, Downtown San Diego, and San Diego Bay. It is home to some of San Diego’s oldest and most historic residences, as well as an eclectic mix of restaurants, boutiques, and professional service providers. Located south of the San Diego River valley and north of Downtown San Diego and San Diego International Airport, Mission Hills offers stunning views of the surrounding areas. Primarily a residential area, Mission Hills features boutique shops and restaurants along Washington Street, in the West Lewis Shopping District, and in other clusters. The oldest parts of the neighborhood were subdivided according to George Marston’s 1908 plan and still consist mainly of houses from the 1908-1930 period, showcasing vernacular, Craftsman, Prairie School, Spanish Colonial Revival, and other architectural styles. The neighborhood’s first home, built in 1887 at 2036 Orizaba on “Inspiration Point,” was constructed by the daughter of the captain of the Pacific Coast sidewheel steamship Orizaba. Mission Hills shares the 92103 zip code with Hillcrest and is part of San Diego’s Uptown community planning area.
